OCCUPATION: Medical Physicist specializing in Diagnostic Radiology
BORN: December 6, 1942 in Harrisburg, PA
EDUCATION: B.S. at Lebanon Valley College in 1965
M.S. at University of New Hampshire in 1968
D.Sc. at Johns Hopkins University in 1977
CERTIFICATIONS:
ABR certification in Diagnostic Radiological Physics & Medical Nuclear Physic in 1980
ABHP certification in Health Physics in 1980
ABMP certification in Diagnostic Imaging Physics in 1990
CAREER:
Between the M.S. and D.Sc. degrees, I worked in the electronics industry for 5 years. As I was finishing the D.Sc. degree, I was hired by the Department of Radiology at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions as an Assistant Professor and Acting Director of Physics & Engineering. I worked with
Drs. Russel Morgan, GUV Rao, Stanley Siegelman and Henry N. Wagner, Jr. I was then recruited to Columbia University and the Columbia University Medical Center where I had the academic ranks of Associate Professor and Professor and was the Chief Hospital Physicist. At Columbia University, I worked with Drs. Philip O. Alderson, Howard Amols, David Brenner, Eric Hall and others. I have been involved in quality control, radiation safety, research in image quality assessments and dosimetry, teaching of radiology residents and graduate students and various administrative functions. I have been active in professional organizations. I have been President of RAMP Inc, Chairman and Secretary of the ACMP, Secretary of the ABMP and a member of the AAPM Board of Directors. By 2005, I had authored 47 journal articles, 64 published abstract and 28 books/book chapters and more than 120 presentations at national meetings. I wrote a book (which included a CD of Power Point images) for radiology residents. I have often given presentations on a variety of medical physics topics at the annual meetings of AAPM, RSNA and ACMP. I have worked with radiographic, PACS, fluoroscopy, angiography, cardiac catheterization, MRI, ultrasound and nuclear medicine equipment. I would describe myself as a practical clinical physicist as compared to a research scientist.
