Task Group No. 217 - Radiation Dose from Airport X-ray Scanners
AAPM Members, Affiliates and Non-Member Affiliates - Login for access to additional information

ChargeTo make detailed measurements of the output of the Rapidscan Airport X-ray scanner. This machine is used in the majority of TSA installations which use x-ray scanners for passenger screening. TSA does not allow access to their scanners owing to security issues, however Rapidscan leadership has already agreed to allow the group above to visit and measurement the output levels of their system. The members of this TG will (1) devise a measurement protocol for determining the output and output distribution of the scanner, (2) acquire (by borrowing, etc) the appropriate equipment for measurement, (3) make a detailed set of measurements to include both output, output distribution, and beam quality, and (4) prepare a short report on this issue.
