AAPM Celebrates the
International Day of Medical Physics
Dear Colleagues,
This year the International Organization of Medical Physics (IOMP) came up with an initiative to celebrate the International Day of Medical Physics (IDMP). The celebrations will be held annually on November 7 – birthday of Marie Curie, whose contributions to Medical Physics have been remarkable. This November, the celebrations will take place simultaneously in Krakow, Poland, where Marie Sklodowska-Curie was born and in Paris where she did most of her work. AAPM supports these events and this page is AAPM's response to the IDMP initiative.
AAPM President, Professor John Hazle prepared a special address that will be delivered on November 7, 2013 in Krakow (Poland) by AAPM delegate Professor Azam Niiromand-Rad together with her presentation entitled ‘Marie Sklodowska-Curie (1867-1934): A Scientist Ahead of Her Time: Historical Overview, Tribute, and her Contributions to Physics, Medicine, Cancer Therapy’. On the same day in Paris, two other AAPM delegates, Professors Jacob Van Dyk and Yakov Pipman, will give slide presentations entitled ‘Medical Physics Education and Training in the Global Village: Issues, Strategies, and Experiences’, and ‘Actions, Achievements and Future Prospects of national and international organizations directly involved in medical physics and the fight against cancer’, respectively.
