F.A.Q. (Frequently Asked Questions)

How do I enter the Forum?

To enter the forum, you need to first be logged in to the AAPM website. Once you are logged in, click on the link in the right hand column on the AAPM Homepage under "AAPM BBS" that says "Enter the Forum".

What is a Category?

A category is simply a group of forums within the BBS. Categories cannot contain other categories or topics, but can contain any number of forums.

What is a Thread?

A thread is a new post in a board, and that post's replies. Threads are called what they are because, typically, a post and its replies will be on the same topic.

What is a Post?

A post, often called a message or reply, may either be a reply to a thread or the thread’s starting information (called the first post.) Posts are only made within threads, and shouldn't be confused with personal messages.

Posts are made by members, and can be quoted in other posts. Sometimes posts have signatures or other information displayed with them, but these are not commonly considered part of the post.

(The word post is analogous to making a note on a physical bulletin board, where you might call the note a "post".)

What is a Sticky?

A sticky topic, or "sticky" refers to a topic which has been marked as important. Typically, these are displayed at the top of the message index above other topics and are often shown slightly differently.

How do I edit or delete a post?

How do I add a signature to my post?

To add a signature to a post you must first create one; this is done via your Control Panel. Once created, you can check the “Include Signature” box on the posting form to add your signature. You can also add a signature by default to all your posts by saying “Yes” to “Use your signature?” in your Control Panel. You can still prevent a signature being added to individual posts by un-checking the Include Signature box on the posting form.

Can I attach a file to my post?

If you have a browser that is Mozilla 4+ compatible then the answer is yes you can. Below the Message box, check the checkbox "Attach a file after posting". When you submit, you will be prompted to attach your file. Browse for your file, then press submit. The file will be attached to your post. You may attach as many files as you wish or delete files you have uploaded. When you are finished, choose "Return to the thread"

Files are stored in the database. Our file space is limited - please only attach files which are relevant to a specific discussion.

Can I use HTML in my posts?

Not exactly, but there are two ways to gain more control over the look of your posts.

  1. From the control panel, change the option to "Use rich edit box when composing messages?" to "Yes"
When you create a post, you will be shown a word processor-like dialog box that allows you to change fonts, colors, indentation, etc as well as add links and embed images.

  2. Use MBBS Codes.

FYI: HTML will be filtered from signature files.

Do I have to accept cookies?

I've lost/forgotten/don’t know my password!

The username/password for the AAPM BBS is different from the one you use to log in to the AAPM website.  The easiest way to access the BBS is actually to be logged in to the AAPM website, and simply click on the "Enter the Forum" on the AAPM homepage (right hand side), which will automatically log you in to the BBS.  If you do this, as long as your browser stays open, the cookie will be there to remember you're logged in.  So, if you click on any links from emails, re: the BBS, it'll automatically take you where you need to go, vs. giving you the login screen.

If you do end up at the login screen - don't panic! While your password cannot be retrieved it can be reset. To do this go to the login page and click “Forgot my password?” Follow the instructions and you should be back online in no time.  If you would like to know your login is or have any problems, please email the Web Mistress at webmistress@aapm.org .
