Program Description

The Equipment Donation Sub-Committee (EDSC), serves the joint partnership between AAPM and IOMP. The EDSC, would like to announce that it has an updated membership and, as its first initiative, has launched a new framework for both equipment donations and equipment requests. The goal of this framework is to increase the likelihood that available, working-order equipment is put to good use at functional or upcoming clinics or educational institutions in low and middle income countries.

AAPM has facilitated the communication with the EDSC through a dedicated address: equipment.donation@aapm.org.

If you have equipment that you would like to donate, or you would like to request specific equipment, please see the brief description of the framework and submit completed versions of Forms A or B.

Targeted Needs

While we would like to accept donations for more general medical equipment, the AAPM/IOMP equipment donation program is currently focused on sourcing instruments and equipment for radiotherapy and imaging quality assurance applications only.

The items currently most needed and requested by our global community are below. If you have any such items available for donation, we hope that you will consider sending them to a new home.

• Ionization chambers (external beam and well-ionization)
• Electrometers
• Extension cables
• Connector adapters
• Voltmeters
• Digital barometers and thermometers
• 3D scanning tanks
• Etc.

If you are unsure that your potential donation is a fit for our program, please contact us at equipment.donation@aapm.org. We may not be equipped to handle some items, however, we may be able to recommend alternative non-profit organizations that can better facilitate your donation.

Process for Equipment Donation

This framework provides a formal process for 1) donating equipment and of 2) requesting equipment for donation. The purpose of the framework is to increase the likelihood that available, working-order equipment is put to good use at functional deserving clinics.

The following steps should be taken by those individuals looking to donate working-order equipment.

1. Fill out the form provided as Form A
   
   
2. If possible, identify a clinic that you believe would benefit from this equipment
   
   
3. The Committee will review the donation information and attempt to match the donation to a requesting clinic
   
   
4. Bearing in mind the requested equipment departure date, the Committee will attempt to facilitate shipping, installation, and training associated with the donated equipment at the receiving clinic

Process for Requesting Equipment for Donation

This framework provides a formal process for 1) donating equipment and of 2) requesting equipment for donation. The purpose of the framework is to increase the likelihood that available, working-order equipment is put to good use at functional deserving clinics.

The following steps should be taken by those individuals requesting equipment for donation.

1. Fill out the form provided as Form B
   
   
2. If possible, identify a clinic that you believe has the donation equipment that you are requesting
   
   
3. The Committee will review the donation request information and attempt to match available equipment
   
   
4. If appropriate equipment is identified, the Committee will attempt to facilitate shipping, installation, and training associated with the donated equipment.
