The overall goal of the Vice President’s Cancer Initiative (Moonshot) is to accelerate progress in cancer research by supporting a limited number of initiatives focused on research or dissemination in basic cancer biology, and cancer prevention, screening, and treatment. A Blue Ribbon Panel (BRP) composed investigators from academia and the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, cancer research advocates, and other stakeholders will make its recommended initiatives to the NCI National Cancer Advisory Board in early September, 2016. In addition, the NCI will continue to support new and ongoing meritorious research across the cancer research continuum, including the Cancer Imaging Archive, the Quantitative Imaging Network, and the potential of radiotherapy to synergize with immune checkpoint inhibitors.
