A video-based system can serve as an effective tool for both patient positioning and motion management. In this session, we will provide an overview of the commercially available solutions as well as a comparison of their capabilities. We will discuss key considerations for selecting the right technology and the steps required in the commissioning process. Technical challenges will be described such as the impact of tissue deformations, reduced image quality for darker skin tones, non-specific topography, inaccurate surface generation from the CT data, and the use of absolute versus relative positioning. The most common use of video systems is in breast radiotherapy. We will discuss coached deep inspiration breath hold (DIBH) using video monitoring and compare this to spirometry based techniques which require the patient to use a mouthpiece and nose-clip. The role of video based systems for frameless stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and multiple target treatments will be presented including design of immobilization for surface imaging of the head and patient monitoring to assure immobilization during delivery. The session will conclude with a discussion of the future potential applications of this technology.
