TU-D-708-0 (Tuesday, August 1, 2017) 11:00 AM - 12:15 PM Room: 708

High intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is a rapidly developing field that has a broad application scope. Current FDA approved HIFU procedures include the thermal ablation treatment of uterine fibroids, prostate tissue, bone metastases and essential tremor with several more indications under investigation. The talks in this session will address the current status and future directions for HIFU including hyperthermia, ablation and targeted drug delivery applications. The role of both ultrasound and MRI in the monitoring and assessment of these therapies will be explored with a discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of each modality.

Learning Objectives:
1. Gain a technical understanding of HIFU and the potential of existing and developing clinical applications.
2. Understand the advantages and disadvantages of ultrasound and MRI monitoring and assessment in HIFU therapies.
