Purpose: To characterize the properties of commercially available Radiofilms and Thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLD) and compare the same in application of radiation Dosimetry.

Methods: Commercially available radiographic film(EDR-2), Radiochromic film(EBT-3, Trueview) and TLD(600, MCP-N and MTS) were procured and characterized using FTIR, UV and RAMAN spectrometer and compared for their sensitivity in x-rays and gamma rays.

Results: The UV–Vis spectroscopy in absorption mode is used to measure the absorbance of different films and UV-VIS spectroscopy in reflectance mode is used to study the band gap and measure the emission centered by photoluminescence. FTIR analyses were carried out for the confirmation of the functional groups in a molecule for both films and TLD’s. The phase of the sample is analyzed with Raman spectroscopy for films and TLD’s.

Conclusion: Both Film and TLD was found to be a feasible dosimeters in determining various studies. However film offers high impact and is a viable alternative to TLD dosimetry at discrete points due to its high linearity. The method described in this paper is useful for comparing the performances of film and TLD detectors.
