Ultrasound is an imaging modality with widespread use in medical facilities by multiple medical specialties and plays a very important role in breast imaging. Frequently, the medical physicist is involved with acceptance testing, annual performance evaluations, and establishing an ongoing quality control program. This session will include a medical physicist’s experience with establishing quality control programs to achieve accreditation in general and breast ultrasound. This speaker will explain why ultrasound QC is important, review required and recommended QC tests, describe image quality tests and testing tools, the frequency of each test and who is qualified to perform it, as well as a review of accreditation bodies available for general and breast ultrasound.
