Welcome from the LAC Chair

The Florida Chapter of the AAPM is thrilled to host the 2006 Annual Meeting of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine. This year’s scientific sessions and technical exhibits will be held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. This world-class facility will also be the meeting point for all of our associated activities. As always, this summer's meeting will focus on both the sharing of science and the understanding of new technologies that assist us in our scientific and clinical missions. It is these rapidly expanding scientific advances, combined with the ever-evolving treatment techniques, which make medical physics one of the most exciting and stimulating disciplines in either physics or medicine. In support of this focus, our venue, the Orange County Convention Center, will provide AAPM members and  sponsors with a facility that will enhance our scientific presentations and lend itself to the display and demonstration of the commercial technologies that enable and support our work.

AAPM members and guests will have access to a host of first class hotels that provide a wide range of accommodations.  Most are within a few minutes walk of the Convention Center. These accommodations provide the meeting participants with easy access to the daily meetings as will as offer venues for the very important technical and social discussions at the beginning and end of each day.

Of course, Orlando is also one of the world’s premier vacation locations.  World-famous theme parks, favorable climate, many natural wonders, and extraordinary shopping and dining all make this meeting very attractive to families. Many families will want to take advantage of our close proximity to Disney World, Universal Studios and Sea World to name a few of our major attractions.  In addition, the AAPM has arranged an exciting companion program that offers day trips to Cape Canaveral, an airboat adventure through the wetlands, a behind the scenes tour at Disney's Animal Kingdom, and a shopping trip to the Premium Outlet Mall. A wonderful Night Out at Universal Studio’s CityWalk has been planned to allow AAPM exclusive access to 5 different music clubs on Tuesday evening.

The 238 members of the Florida Chapter of the AAPM recommend that you get your presentation ready, pack your shorts, swimsuits and sunscreen,  and “come on down and join us” for what promises to be a wonderful blend of science and social interaction in Orlando at the 2006 AAPM meeting.

Sincerely,
Frank Bova
