MOC/SAMs
Many AAPM members now require Maintenance of Certification (MOC) as defined by the American Board of Radiology (ABR). Completion of Self Assessment CE (SA-CE) per year is a requirement for the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) process as defined by the American Board of Radiology (ABR). Information regarding the MOC requirments can be found at What is MOC. SAMS are not required, but can be used to meet the (SA-CE) requirements. AAPM is offering Self-Assessment Modules (SAMs). AAPM program organizers have identified sessions in Diagnostic, Nuclear Medicine and Therapy Physics to be offered with audience response technology at the annual meeting in 2015.
How Do I Register for an Audience Response Unit (ARU) in order to obtain SAMs sessions/credits at the 2015 AAPM Annual Meeting?
- Pre-register for the meeting. You will not be able to register for an ARU after June 24 (there will be no on-site registration.) Prior to June 24, if you have already registered for the meeting, but did not register for an ARU, you can still add an ARU by calling the registration call center.
- You will be asked if you require Maintenance of Certification (MOC) as defined by ABR. Say YES.
- You will be given the option to register for an ARU unit ($10 to rent the ARU, and participate in as many SAMs sessions as you wish).
- When you arrive at the Anaheim Convention Center to pick up your badge and program materials, you will be given a ticket for your audience response unit (ARU). Exchange your ticket for the audience response unit at the ARU counter. NOTE: You will be asked for credit card verification. In the event you do not return your ARU, your credit card will be charged $175.
- Go to the SAMs sessions of your choice. We will post the list of SAMs sessions in May, and send an email to all AAPM members.
- During a SAMs session, the speaker will ask interactive questions. You will be able to respond using your SAMs audience response unit. The audience feedback will appear in real time on the screen. There is no pass/fail and you will not be graded on your responses.
- At the end of the meeting, please return your audience response unit to the ARU counter.
- Post meeting, AAPM post SAMs credits to the CME Gateway accounts of each SAM participant. The SAMs credits will pass through the CME Gateway to the ABR. Please sign onto the CME Gateway to view your SAMs credits.
- To confirm attendance, attendees must complete the an on-line survey for the SAMs session. Internet terminals will be available on-site for this purpose. You may also use your own laptop at the Wireless Lounge either inside or outside the exhibit hall, or in the comfort of your hotel room. Please note you will require your badge I.D. in order to complete the session survey.
Don't require Maintenance of Certification, but still want to sit in on a SAMs session?
No problem. The sessions are open to everyone. An audience response unit is not required to attend.
