BRENDA G. CLARK, PhD, FCCPM
Occupation: Medical Physicist specializing in radiation oncology
Born: Within the sound of Bow Bells, London, England
Education: BSc, Physics, University of Southampton, England, 1971
PhD, Physics, Council for National Academic Awards, UK, 1976
Certification: Fellow, Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine
Career: After gaining a PhD for research performed for the UK Ministry of Defence on “Optical Spatial Frequency Filtering of Industrial Radiographs”, I moved to Canada and spent several years at home with my two children. When I returned to the work force, I retrained in Medical Physics at McGill University, under the tutelage of Ervin Podgorsak and his team. After 11 years at McGill where I spent time in diagnostic radiology physics and radiation therapy physics specializing in stereotactic radiosurgery and brachytherapy, I moved to Vancouver in 1997 to take up a position with the BC Cancer Agency.
In 1998 I was elected to the board of the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine and became their first female President in 2002. I was elected to the board of the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Educational Programs in 2001 and became their President and Chair in January, 2004, the first Canadian and also the first female for this organization.
