Welcome To Boston

The members of the Local Arrangements Committee welcome you to the beautiful city of Boston for the 37th Annual Meeting of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine. We are pleased that you could join us for this historic joint meeting with our colleagues from the Health Physics Society in celebration of the centennial of the discovery of x-rays.

Boston, with its own history and charm, provides a wonderful setting for the 1995 Annual Meeting. We hope you will find some time to visit the city and its surroundings, and enjoy the beauty of New England in the summer. Our social program committee, chaired by Chuck Mayo, has endeavored to bring you a traditional summer pastime in the northeast, a beachfront lobsterbake at the Marina Bay complex just south of Boston. There you will be tempted by New England clam chowder, beach volleyball, and the bustle and charm of an active marina. There will be music and dancing to the sounds of the Mark Greel Band, as well as plenty of space to walk along the docks and watch the ever-changing face of the Atlantic Ocean.

Our meeting this year has a number of changes too, and we hope that you will find them to your liking. The scientific and educational program features extended refresher and continuing education courses, as well as an extended program. In conjunction with the HPS, there are a number of joint sessions on the history of x-rays, and symposia looking at new directions for the future. In our exhibits area, you will find electronic posters, a new display format debuting this year. There will be a network connecting a number of our exhibitors, allowing them to demonstrate their information access through such standards as DICOM and the World Wide Web. A number of public-access computer stations will also be available in the exhibit hall, allowing you to try out some of the information resources of the Internet, including the brand-new AAPM node and WWW server.

We hope you enjoy your time in our city, and will find excuses to return again in years to come. On behalf of the New England Chapter of the AAPM, we thank you for joining us this year, and look forward to an entertaining and informative week.
