Request for Proposals – Therapy Continuing Education Sessions

2010 Annual Meeting of the AAPM

The Therapy Education Program Directors for the 2010 AAPM Annual Meeting are requesting proposals for education session presentations in Therapy Physics.

Proposals should include the following:

The submitter must be either the moderator or one of the speakers.  All proposed speakers must have given prior consent to participate.  The proposal should also state whether it should be considered for SAMS.  Note that a SAMS has additional requirements, which are given below.

The quality of the submission is only the minimum requirement in the review process.  Proposal selection will also be based on criteria such as other CE topics for the 2010 meeting and topics presented in previous years.  In short, we must include overall programmatic goals when reviewing proposals.  Since there are a limited number of slots to fill, we fully expect that all proposals will not be accepted.  However, we hope that proposals not accepted for the 2010 meeting will be submitted in future years.

Please respond by December 2, 2009.

Thank you,

Robin Stern (CE Therapy Program Director)
Todd Pawlicki (CE Therapy Program Co-Director)

SAMs (What you need to know)

All SAMs presentations are captured for the Virtual Library.

AAPM must apply to the ABR for approval of the SAM offerings. So that the ABR reviewers can confirm that the subject matter is relevant to The ABMS MOC goals, applications must include sufficient materials to fully demonstrate the comprehensive nature of the proposed SAM offering.  At a minimum, content submitted to the ABR for each speaker MUST include:

  1. Abstract
  2. Presentation Slide Set - Pre-meeting Submission
  3. Questions and References set

Therefore, for the ABR application and in addition to the abstract, each speaker is required to submit:

Presentation Draft: A draft containing “word slides” to illustrate the material to be covered.  Images to be used are not needed at the time of submittal to ABR.  The word slides can be modified prior to the presentation, and information added, but the general content should not be modified.  The question sets (question, answer and reference(s)) need to be included in the presentation draft set.  It is best to go ahead and put the questions in the Audience Response Function Template initially.  In any event the questions must be in the draft presentation to indicate when the question will be asked.

Questions and References: Each speaker will be REQUIRED to submit 3 relevant questions relating to the material presented including five multiple choice answers.  (In cases four answers may be accepted and questions involving ranges that are appropriate for 3 answers may be acceptable.)  The questions should evaluate basic knowledge to be gained from the material presented.  The questions can be placed throughout the presentation or at the end.  The questions should not be trivial.

These questions will ultimately be embedded into the speaker's PowerPoint presentation given at the meeting (AAPM Audio Response System Slide Set Preparation information). The ABR will be approving the question sets submitted by the speaker; therefore it is IMPERATIVE that the exact questions submitted to ABR be asked during the presentation.

Questions: Regarding the preparation of the slide set, please contact Michael Yester, AAPM Annual Meeting SAMs Coordinator.
