The purpose of this task group is to investigate the factors that affect image quality and dose in dental units. The task group will make recommendations for specific parameter evaluation, such as collimation, spatial resolution, uniformity, SNR and dose measurement, and will define practical procedures in which medical physicists can evaluate these parameters on x-ray systems associated with dental facilities.

|Most recent status update:||The dental radiography task group (TG-175) had one meeting/teleconference in 2010 so far. A number of issues were discussed. They included intraoral dose levels, evaluation of an image quality phantom, and tests required for the acceptance and QC testing of intraoral units. Drafts of the tests required, as well as evaluation of an image quality phantom, were drawn up during the AAPM meeting at Philadelphia (2010), but more work is needed to refine those drafts.
For 2011, we will continue working on refining/expanding drafts as mentioned. We will also start to summarize suggestions for film processor QC. While we hope that some of the drafts may be refined enough to be posted on the AAPM website to be shared with members, it is still too early for this to be determined. - [8/9/2010 by Alexander Kwan] Click to update.
