  • AAPM Webinars
    • Topic: AAPM Webinar on Best Practices on Use of the AAPM Radiation and Medical Imaging Communications Guide
Synopsis: In 2022 AAPM completed its radiation risk communications guide "Radiation and Medical Imaging: Communicating Clear Answers to Top Questions". This webinar will provide members with useful tips and best practices for effectively making use of this important resource in their communications with the media, colleagues, patients, and the public. In addition, the webinar will feature live role playing involving scenarios medical physicists are likely to encounter and conclude with an interactive Q&A.
Speakers: Cynthia McCollough, Wendy Beatty, Frederic Fahey, Rebecca Milman

    • Webinar #17 |AAPM Webinar Series on MP3.0 Transformational Medical Physics
Topic: The Promise of Artificial Intelligence in Multi-Modality Medical Imaging
Synopsis: This talk presents the major applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in multimodality medical imaging. It will inform the audience about a series of advanced development recently carried out at the PET instrumentation & Neuroimaging Lab of Geneva University Hospital and other active research groups. To this end, the promising applications of deep learning to six generic fields of active research, including imaging instrumentation design, image denoising (low-dose PET/SPECT and CT imaging), image segmentation, cross-modality image conversion, quantitative image reconstruction and computational modelling and radiation dosimetry will be discussed.

    • Webinar #3 | AAPM Webinar Series on Spatially Fractionated Radiation Therapy (SFRT): Clinical Significance, Technical Approaches and Challenges
Topic: Advancing SFRT by Preclinical Research planned in conjunction with The Radiosurgery Society (RSS)
Synopsis: SFRT is an unconventional form of radiation therapy that has recaptured the attention of the field in recent years. Mounting evidence from clinical application and preclinical research has shown that SFRT is unequivocally different from conventional radiation therapy and has the potential of very high therapeutic ratio. Despite its potential, especially for patients whose cancers cannot be effectively controlled by conventional therapies, SFRT remains largely unused. This webinar series, planned in conjunction with The Radiosurgery Society (RSS), is intended to be a comprehensive overview of SFRT – the history, current status, the potentials, and the challenges.
Speakers: Sha Chang, Yolanda Prezado, Slavisa Tubin

    • Webinar #32 | AAPM Webinar Series on Advances in Medical Physics
Topic: Advances in Cardiac CT and CBCT Imaging
Synopsis: Cardiac CT and CBCT imaging techniques enable imaging hardware to ‘beat’ in sync with the patient, providing a pathway to increase the consistency in image quality between patients, reducing the overall imaging dose received by the patient and facilitating tailored imaging for specific clinical applications. Novel adaptive imaging solutions for applications during thoracic radiotherapy, cardiac radioablation and interventional cardiology and radiology will be discussed, highlighting current status and progress along the clinical translation pathway.
      Speaker: Tess Reynolds
