Policy text

The objective of this policy is to ensure that all AAPM-related content on the internet, including social media, is consistent with the organization's mission and objectives.

Officially recognized AAPM groups wishing to independently post electronic information to the internet:

  1. shall have that information reviewed by the chair and/or vice chair of the group prior to sharing,
  2. shall ensure that any content that may be interpreted as the position or view of the AAPM (other than a direct link to AAPM content) must clearly state that it is the position or view of the individual author or group and does not necessarily reflect the position of the AAPM,
  3. shall have the following disclaimer on its description/bio: “Postings do not reflect the official opinion of the AAPM”,
  4. shall ensure content, including images, does not violate copyright or trademark protections,
  5. shall ensure that content that may be inappropriate or offensive is not shared (see section II).

Affiliated social media accounts may be monitored for appropriateness of content by AAPM staff to ensure compliance with this Policy.  AAPM headquarters has jurisdiction over all web-related content that is created and maintained under this Policy.

  1. General procedures
    1. Staff will, on request, provide each group (council, committee, subcommittee, working group, task group, units) [groups] with a members-only BBS thread to facilitate topical discussion.
    2. AAPM staff shall be provided with login information (usernames and passwords) for all affiliated social media pages, accounts, etc. at the start of their development. Any changes should be communicated to the responsible AAPM staff.
    3. The AAPM logo may not be used without permission; it will be provided by staff for use in affiliated social media accounts. AAPM requires use of its own custom icons and backgrounds to maintain a coherent image of the AAPM brand.
    4. When possible, affiliated social media accounts should link back to AAPM's social media account(s). The AAPM will reciprocate.
    5. Groups that wish to post members-only content (e.g., a working copy of a draft report, information about invite-only meetings) should work with headquarters to post within the AAPM website, so that membership requirements can be enforced.
    6. LinkedIn
      1. The AAPM LinkedIn group is open to the public. No individual LinkedIn groups are allowed, as AAPM can host subgroups within its parent group. If a committee is interested in setting up a subgroup, please email staff with adequate details on what you want to develop.
    7. Other social media: Bluesky, X (Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, etc.
      1. The AAPM pages for these platforms are open to the public. Committees wishing to start a page on these platforms should title it "AAPM [group name]” and should email staff to request use of AAPM’s logo.
  2. General guidelines on appropriateness of content
    1. Groups are responsible for whatever they post online; they must ensure that what they post is professional.
    2. Groups must not post advertisements, promotions, or solicitations for products and/or services without written permission from Headquarters.
    3. Groups must post accurate and reputable information.
    4. Groups must avoid posting insulting or angry responses to posted material. They may point out any observed errors but should never disparage the person(s) behind the post.
    5. Groups must be respectful of the privacy of others. They must avoid publishing or citing personal details and photographs of individuals without their permission.
    6. Profanity, pornography, or any illegal material may NOT be posted or linked in any shape or form.
    7. Group posts may not include racial, ethnic, gender-based insults or any other personal discriminations.
