Activities

The overall goal of this task group is to provide current technical guidance for decisions on the hospital release of the radiopharmaceutical therapy patient. Computational assessments of the radiation dose to medical staff, members of the general public, and family members exposed to the RPT patient will be based upon those previously outlined in NCRP Report No 155 and informed by the most recent guidance form the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).  The report will provide an extensive review of current radiopharmaceuticals used in cancer therapy that are either FDA approved and in clinical use, as well as those undergoing current clinical trials.  The software tool – MIRDrelease – will be developed based upon patient-specific measurements of external dose rates as specified in NCRP Report No. 155. Additionally, the task group will perform a combination of literature review and institution-specific data collection of bi-exponential fits to total body retention of the radiopharmaceutical.  Future extensions of the software tool will include the ability to construct patient-specific exposure scenarios based upon an extensive library of mesh-based virtual patient models of adults and children as either patients or exposed medical staff / family members.
