Activities
  1. Provide a concise update of the AAPM TG-66 report “Quality assurance for computed-tomography simulators and the computed-tomography-simulation process” that reflects the major advances in CT simulator technology, new knowledge, and practice changes since the original 2003 report.
  2. Review and provide comprehensive guidelines for acceptance testing, commissioning, and periodic quality assurance of CT simulators used for Radiation Oncology treatment planning purpose with focus on technologies not addressed in the original report that have since become common practice. These technologies include 4D-CT for respiratory gating, dual/multi-energy CT, metal-artifact reduction techniques, extended HU scales, and extended field-of-view reconstructions.
  3. Provide guidelines for creating scan protocols specifically for CT simulators and discuss differences to diagnostic CT scan protocols.
  4. Identify common fault trees in the CT simulation process and provide examples for TG-100-style prospective quality management for CT simulators.
