ActivitiesDeliver a comprehensive new report on the measurement, reporting, and management of radiation dose in CT with specific focus areas including, but not limited to, the following:
  1. Incorporate new CT technology into Section 2 of Report 096
  2. Add new radiation dose indices to Section 3 of Report 096 such as the following:
    • CTDI free-in-air
    • CTDI for beam width > 40 mm
    • CTDI for scan projection radiographs
    • SSDE
    • Etot
    • Equilibrium dose
    • Equilibrium dose pitch product
  3. Remove discussion of effective dose. Write specifically and with references on using system metrics in organ dose calculation models referencing Report 246 and other relevant literature. (potentially include effective dose in appendix? Or just include how they are used in the clinical environment i.e. used for organ dose estimates or effective doses).
  4. Rewrite Section 4 of Report 096 to include modern radiation dose and image quality optimization methods, including expanded discussion of AEC systems (previously in Appendix B) with the possibility of including diagnostic reference levels for CTDI rather than technique charts.
  5. Discuss the appropriate use of scanner reported dose indices in the clinical environment.
  6. Update references throughout the report.
